Planned Hospital Support
A Montrice is more than a Doula, she is a midwife charged with supporting a woman during labor before and during her planned trip to the hospital. At home, the Montrice is responsible for monitoring the labor and making clinical assessments (such as cervical checks and fetal heart tones) before the mother goes to the hospital. Once at the hospital, she then gives authority for clinical assessment to the hospital medical staff and remains by the mother's side to give physical and emotional support for the duration of labor.
